Our commitment to sustainability
Since launching our Sustainability Framework in 2022, our commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives is reflected in the seven areas of impact we established: health and wellbeing, learning and development, diversity, equity and inclusion, our community, our business, carbon emissions and energy, and materials management. Our comprehensive approach has led to significant achievements and progress, with numerous activities now embedded in our core business.
Moving forward, we’re focusing our efforts more strategically to enable us to drive greater impact, by consolidating our seven areas of impact into three core pillars: Our people, Our community and Our environment.
This approach reflects our belief that a sustainable business is built on the foundation of empowered people, engaged communities and a commitment to the environment. By uniting behind these three pillars, we can create lasting impact and build a more sustainable future.
We are proud of the work we have done, achieving notable milestones and progress in our sustainability journey so far.
- Implementation of our wellbeing framework providing resources and support for our people.
- Continuing to meet our requirements under the NZLS Gender Equality Charter including regular pay gap audits and publishing our gender pay gap.
- Creating robust processes to ensure we meet our commitment under our accreditation as a Living Wage Employer in Aotearoa.
- Taking the Pride Pledge and the Gender Pledge.
- Continuing to grow our Te Ao Māori competency and understanding the principles of Te Tiriti.
- Introducing a paid volunteer day enabling our people to support our communities.
- Setting a stretch pro-bono legal services target and ensuring that our fee earners can record the value of their contribution.
- Launching a refreshed brand position and visual identity that reaffirms our core values.
- Launching two tech-enabled services, the Discovery Specialists and Villageinfonet SaaS.
- Introducing our supplier code of conduct that outlines the minimum sustainability expectations we have of our suppliers.
- Continuing to offset our emission footprint annually with high-quality and independently verified credits purchased via Toitū Envirocare and CHOOOSE (Air New Zealand’s carbon credits partner).
