Alice von Batenburg is a solutions focussed lawyer with over ten years' experience acting on banking and finance transactions. Alice acts for domestic and offshore banks, non-bank lenders and corporate borrowers on all aspects of financing matters. She has specific expertise in property and development finance, corporate finance, acquisition finance, retirement village financing, consumer lending matters, and trans-Tasman and cross border matters.

Alice is a pivotal member of the Auckland banking team, and oversees the mentoring of the junior team. In her time to date at Anthony Harper, Alice has had a direct hand in growing the practice area and client base.  

Alice has been annually recognised in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific Guide since 2020. She has also been recognised in IFLR1000 directory and by NZ Lawyer magazine.

  • Acting as lead counsel for the Australian finance parties on a complex NZ$190,000,000 senior and mezzanine refinancing to an agri borrower group which involved drafting bespoke facilities and intercreditor arrangements.
  • Acting for the property developer on the financing of (what will, upon completion, be) the tallest residential tower in New Zealand.
  • Acting as local counsel for the Canadian finance parties on C$54,000,000 financing for the acquisition of New Zealand medical software company.  
  • Acting for an Australian unit trust borrower on its non-bank facilities comprised of NZ$62,000,000 of new senior financing and NZ$61,000,000 of amended and restated mezzanine financing.  
  • Acting for a non-bank property financier on the NZ$82,000,000 development financing of a 44 unit luxury apartment complex in Parnell, Auckland.
  • Acting for a retirement village operator on the provision of its refinance, acquisition and development financing which involved renegotiation of replacement security sharing, priority and subordination arrangements with three lenders and the statutory supervisor, putting in place a bridging loan including interim subordination arrangements with the outgoing senior lender, and new equity commitment arrangements.
